The benefits of noni juice: how does one juice provide so many health benefits?
What are the main benefits of noni juice? The
main benefit - I would say - is its ability to make a fundamental and
beneficial addition to our nutrition. The many noni juice benefits that
have been reported probably show what a wide range of problems arise
from inadequate nutrition! This page starts with some background
to the nutritional basis of the health benefits of noni juice. I talk
about traditional uses and modern research. Finally, lower down the page, you'll find links to conditions that seem to respond well to noni juice. I also provide a link to a page that helps you decide how much to use.
Noni is also called "Indian mulberry." Scientifically, it is Morinda citrifolia,
a member of the Rubiaceae, or coffee family. It grows as a small tree
or shrub. It is interesting, in that it flowers and fruits throughout
the year. Each shrub can bear fruit of all ages.
If any fruit
juice deserves the name super juice it is this one! Its ingredients and
use have both been widely researched (but do take a look at the general
section on research, too). We now know a lot of valuable
information about the health benefits of noni juice. This has come
partly from studying the traditional uses of the plant. The
widespread uptake and use of the plant across the world has also
provided opportunities for surveys of benefits, and other forms of
research. Use of noni juice as a nutritional supplement has grown
so rapidly in the last ten years has had a massive impact on the
economy of Tahiti. Export of this plant from Tahiti (for use in health
products) is now more important to that country's economy than the
export of its famous black pearls! It originally grew in an area
from SE Asia to Australia. The Polynesians introduced it into Hawaii,
and it is also found in India and the Caribbean. It has a long history
as a medicine, having been referred to thousands of years ago in
ancient Indian texts. All parts of the plant have medicinal uses,
but the fruit is particularly favored for producing the rich mixture
of nutrients that benefits of noni juice - in all likelihood - depend
on. Dr. Neil Solomon MD PhD has carried out detailed work on the
noni plant since 1997. He has researched the ingredients of noni. He
has also studied how people use it and what they use it for. His work
is published in two books that I recommend to anyone who wants to know
more. You can also read more about Dr. Solomon's work and his biography
in the noni research authors section. Noni Juice - How much, How Often, For What
(Direct Source Publishing, 2004) is now in its third edition. It
contains the results of his surveys of more than 25,000 noni juice
drinkers ... in an easily digested form! It contains many stories from
individuals who have experienced benefit from taking the juice. The
information on noni health benefits on this site owes a tremendous
amount to Dr.Solomon, and the work he has done over the past ten years.
What is the basis of the health benefits of noni juice?
The central health benefit of noni juice is almost certainly due to its role as a natural nutritional supplement.
The plant naturally concentrates small quantities of a very large
large number of micronutrients (substances in our diet that only need
to be present in small quantities to produce a health benefit) helping
to restore some of what is lost due to modern farming methods.
Precisely how these nutrients impact on the body (and its ability to heal itself) and in many cases unknown.
It appears - as is the case for many natural supplements - that
the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. The mixture of about
150 'nutraceuticals' or 'micronutrients' together have a potency that
none would have in isolation.
I also provide information about its (excellent) safety record and - for balance - look at some noni side effects including issues about liver problems and high levels of potassium. The Traditional Health Benefits of Noni Juice:
The following are the traditional uses of noni:
- Digestive system: intestinal parasites, diarrhea (read more about noni and colitis), indigestion, stomach ulcers

- Systemic conditions: high blood pressure, diabetes, fever

Dr.
Solomon has produced a series of leaflets explaining the health benefits
of noni juice. One summarizes "21 Reasons to Drink Noni Juice." Like to
check the contents and get a copy? Click here to find a brief summary of 21 reasons to drink Noni Juice, and a link to a source of more information.
As this site develops, I will research these effects and present
evidence from surveys and individual case studies of the benefits of
noni juice. I'm writing more noni juice benefits pages - they will be available soon. Click here to
see a page explaining quantity of noni juice to use.
