Noni dosage: quantity and directions

"What is the expected noni dosage to use?"

Noni quantity, dose and directions are explained on this page.

First, relax about making mistakes. This is a fruit juice, after all. Optimum for you will vary from person to personbut there is no critical matching as you would with a drug. Noni has been safely consumed in large amounts.

I've just passed on information about this juice to my cousin. He's due in hospital for an operation to remove his prostate gland, which has just been found to be enlarged and malignant.

Thankfully, it has not advanced and there has been no spread, locally or more generally through his body.

He had put himself on a pomegranate preparation from the local health food shop, but when he heard what I had to sayabout noni, he decided to use that instead.

He was a bit perplexed about the lack of information on noni dosage on the bottle, when it arrived.

"Well, you need to think of it as a food, rather than a medicine." I said.

I think that's the key. Medicines can have pretty strict and specific recommendations for dose size. And thismay be matched to age and body mass (among other things, like the severity of the problem being treated).

These juices are concentrated foods, and needs vary from person to person. Nonetheless, you will want some idea about noni dosage to decide how much is a sufficient quantity to provide the micronutrients you need.

But let me just repeat here the warning about its high potassium content. If you are on a low potassium diet, you DO need to seek advice. Check out this section to find that information.

Once again, I'm indebted to Dr. Neil Solomon for these guidelines. They are taken from his book, "Noni Juice - how much, how often, for what?"

Dr Solomon's suggested approach to noni quantity

First, it is a good idea to make absolutely certain that there is no allergy, so take a small trial quantity for three days.

First three days - trial quantity:

Adult (over 16 years) - one teaspoon before breakfast; one teaspoon before dinner

Child (under 16 years) - one teaspoon before breakfast

First month - where you ensure that your body is really 'topped up' with micronutrients:

Adult - 60 mls / 2 fl oz before breakfast; 60 mls / 2 fl oz before dinner

Child - 30 mls / 1 fl oz before breakfast; 30 mls / 1 fl oz before dinner

Second to sixth months - to ensure you body has sufficient time to respond to the micronutrients:

Adult - 60 mls / 2 fl oz before breakfast; 30 mls / 1 fl oz before dinner

Child - 30 mls / 1 fl oz before breakfast; 15 mls / 1/2 fl oz before dinner

Seventh month and beyond - to maintain adequate levels of supplementation:

Adult - 30 mls / 1 fl oz before breakfast; 30 mls / 1 fl oz before dinner

Child - 30 mls / 1 fl oz before breakfast

H/L: Check the case-studies on this site

As I said, the quantity which any one person needs to drink to achieve an effective quantity of micronutrients a is very variable.

If you look round the site, you'll find examples of the actual quantities that people have used and the effects on their health. This will also provide some guidance for your own situation.

"I took noni as a tonic ... within a month my ulcer symptoms had improved"

This is the story of someone I met recently. She heard me talking about noni and asked me if it could help her hair condition. She had noticed that since she had tried to grow it, it reached a certainlength, and then stopped.

She decided to take 30 mls per day - a reasonable noni dosage for someone who is in generally good health and who wants and extra boost.

Within a month she called me back, asking me if the noni juice could have had any effect on her ulcer.

"What ulcer?" I didn't know about that! Ulcer is listed as one of noni's traditional uses.

She had been having tests and a peptic ulcer had been diagnosed, along with the presence of a bug Helicobacter pylorii now known to cause ulcers in some people. She had held off starting the prescribed drugs because she was concerned about side effects.

To cut a long story short, her symptoms had decreased considerably within a month. Quite a result from a noni dosage of just the maintenance quantity!

There will be an update on this story in the digestive system section when she is re-tested for presence of the bug.

If you look around the site, you'll find other, concrete examples of the noni dosage people have used ... and the impact this has had on their health.

I hope these examples will help you make up your own mind.
